Band Bio

Carbon City Lights is an indie alternative rock band based in San Luis Obispo, California. Lead singer, Michael Venia, was a contestant on Season 21 of NBC’s hit show, the Voice. Listeners appreciate the authenticity that comes from Venia’s thoughtful lyrics and powerful vocals. Live performances are energetic and dynamic with alt-rock jams featuring rocking cello and moving ballads. Carbon City Lights includes Central Coast locals Bret Heenan (lead guitar), Dan Hernandez (bass), Howard Emmons (drums), and Bob Liepman (cello).

Singer-songwriter, Michael Venia, picked up the guitar while growing up in Saudi Arabia listening to Rick Dees Top 40 international radio hits. As a teen, his talents caught the interest of CNN's Chief International Correspondent, Christiane Amanpour, who featured him in a piece on Western music in the Middle East. After leaving Saudi Arabia, Venia gained traction in the music scene in Toronto, Canada while attending recording arts school before bringing the band to the Central Coast of California.
